Catering for soccer enthusiasts, the park also includes a children's playground, spectator viewing, open space and a green background to the suburb of St Peters. The open space is a retreat for locals who like to walk, watch sports or play with their dog. Others jog, play on the grass or rest under the shade of the old gum trees. In the near future, the park will include a BMX Pump Track. Council is developing a 10 year plan for the park and would like to hear from people who use the park or live in the locality to ensure that the plan meets the needs of the community now and in the future.

The existing footbridge over the Cooks River between Marrickville Golf Club and Beaman Park crosses the boundary of Canterbury Council and Marrickville Council and is jointly owned by both Councils. Regular inspections of the existing bridge indicate that it is in poor condition and coming to the end of its life. Marrickville Council and Canterbury City Council have together agreed that replacing the footbridge is the best option for the community.

What is Zero Waste?
A Zero Waste community is one that avoids the generation of waste and where any discarded materials are designed as a resource for other processes, no materials are discharged to land air or water. Every sector has a role to play… we’re in this together.

Marrickville Council is trialling new off-leash dog exercise areas in parks around the Marrickville local government area. The trial runs for 12 months and feedback is welcomed throughout the year. The use of Council Parks by dog owners is encouraged by Council because it creates a positive sense of community. Dogs must be on a leash unless in one of Council's designated 'off-leash' areas - some are operational full time and others are on a time-share basis. Join the discussion here.

The Community Panel is a diverse group of residents who represent the people of the Marrickville local government area by having their say about important issues affecting our community. While the Panel is not a formal decision-making body, members' input helps Council to better understand the community's needs. Members take part in a minimum of 4 consultations a year, which could range from small online surveys, to focus groups to attending events. Click here for more information and to fill in an online application form.

Street trees are a major community asset, vital to the health and beauty of our public domain. Like everything in nature, trees have a life cycle and Council needs to plan for their protection, maintenance and renewal.
Thanks to everyone who took the Street Tree survey. View the Community Summary Key Findings Report. The draft Master Plan which will be placed on public exhibition later this year for final community feedback before adoption.

The Independent Local Government Review Panel has recommended major local government reforms, including proposals for council amalgamations.
Consultation which is now closed, showed none of the three models proposed by the Panel had received majority community support. Council included this information in its submission to the Panel.
