I'm ashamed by the rubbish in the street, poor condition of footpaths, illegal parking, and general degradation of the streetscape. I'd like to see Council take on these issues.

Creating a positive vibe in the community- this relates to clean, safe, nice, diverse spaces as well as active community services/programs.

Again the Littering and the Graffiti as well as focusing funds on the Majority not minority community groups

johnl Comment 3.1 27 Jan 2010, 2:14 PM

Can you give an example of the misplaced funding you mention?

Council should make sure the light rail is extended along the old goods line from Annandale to Dulwich Hill before the opportunity is lost.

Additionally an arterial bike route should be included along side the light rail extension to take commuter cyclists off roads all the way to Anzac bridge.

Making the area more people friendly - less cars, more bikes and predestrians, more trees. And keeping the lovely community things like the dodgy DIY markets near the Hub, Addison Rd Markets, alternative culture etc.

I would be sad to see newtown/enmore/camperdown become a tidy town like what City of Sydney has done to Erskineville. I love the political posters, garage sale signs, chalk on the pavement (except if it's corporate advertising!), buskers. The libertarian Marrickville side of King St is so much more interesting than the City of Sydney side where culture and politics are 'cleaned' off the streets, walls and poles.

Yes! yes! yes!

council should be more open about their processes surrounding DA's.Should be more rigouous in their scrutiny of DA's.And their approvals of DA's should reflect their Urban Stratergy plans

johnl Comment 6.1 31 Jan 2010, 5:22 PM

Monitoring and enforcement of DAs is very poor. There is no pro-active effort to identify breaches of consent. When problems are reported the response is neither timely nor effective.

Trucks. There are too many of them, they're noisy and smelly, and often too big for our narrow streets. In my neighbourhood they regularly knock over bollards and street signs, damage footpaths, and make terrible noise at bad times (private garbage collection at 1 am!).

Council needs to be pro-active in this. In particular all DAs for commercial and industrial buildings should limit both the size and hours of access of trucks.

Increase the green space (and I don't mean grass! stop mowing, plant hardy natives) so that it will help to make transport corridors cooler on the hot summer days so that we can walk and cycle places comfortably. Improve the quality of stormwater that flows to our local waterways (clean up the Cooks River!).

Find ways to help landlords install rainwater tanks and other sustainable solutions.

Providing activities for the young and caring for the old. Planting trees that provide shade on the streets. More public art. More public toilets. More meeting spaces for artists eg outdoor stages / ampitheatres in Parks.

I'm also ashamed by the amount of rubbish dumped around St Peters, especially around the vacant RTA land on Campbell Street. The whole area looks trashy as this strip sits in limbo awaiting the RTA's decision about the future of Campbell Street.

I'm very sad that Qirkz got shut down. It was so awesome to have great music in Marrickville, especially with the Rattler just round the corner as well.

Council should be supporting culture and allowing underground arts to bloom instead of being the fun police!

sokio Comment 12 27 Mar 2010, 11:43 AM

Any form of construction within the council area should be only of an enviro nature a green build only make the change take the lead give the concessions
