Marrickville council should be focusing on developing a re-homing strategy for the massive number of stray cat colonies in the marrickville council area. This is a huge problem, which without any intervention will only continue to grow rapidly.

I know council did a program not too long ago, something about discounted or free desexing for cats. That is good, but really only domestic cats would have been included in this. What about all the stray cats that no one claims or cares about?

I know a few older people in my neighbour who have male cats. They let their cats out every night and don't worry what they get up to. Mind you, these male cats are NOT desexed. I asked why their cats were not desexed, their reply was 'why should I? They're male, so they can't get more…

Try to get a lift at the station. Too many people struggle with the steps.

Try to divert traffic around Dulwich Hill centre. It is so lovely but is ruined by the traffic. Wouldn't it be a fabulous restaurant precinct if that traffic was diverted?

DO something about the crappy old fashioned swimming pools. You need to separate out lane swimmers and leisure swimmers - not with a rope but with separate pools.

Really push for the light rail to Dulwich Hill. It will be fantastic.

Council need to keep on top of the melting pot side of the area. At the moment we more…

I forgot to say cut back on green stuff. You are making fools of yourselves and that will show in time.

Presently Council needs to concentrate on restructuring and unlike past management some tough decisions need to be made about numbers performing tasks and the need for some tasks and projects. Further Asset Mgt System implementation needs to be accellerated so that the "real" picture of the state and value of Council's holdings is presented and dealt with. I will write again about these matters and getting back to basics.

The lack of a lift at the train station is a big problem. There is no access to the station for wheel chairs, prams or for elderly. The nearest station with a lift is Summer Hill. I have three small children none of whom are of school age and I am forced to drive from the lack of a lift! Its hugely inconvenient (and of course it should also be noted, its discriminatory.)

By law motorists should give way to pedestrians, who are crossing the road, when motorists turn into or out of a side street. It is clear most motorists do not know this law or blatantly ignore it. I have constantly witnessed near misses between pedestrians and motorists due to this.

I think council should take action to place crossing lines across all side streets so that motorists have a physical reminder, every time, that they must give way to pedestrians at these junctions.

Further to this, is an idea I’ve heard recently where side streets also have a speed bump with the crossing on top, at the junction with the main street, so that the road comes up to meet the pedestrian foot path rather than the footpath coming down to meet the road. This design idea further enforces the law with a physical and visual priority for pedestrians over motor vehicles at side streets.

Personally I think Marrickville Council does a great job already in servicing the needs and wants of its community.

But as a general comment for future development within the local area, council should continue its park up-grade program, particularly along the Cooks River precincts. Improve the cycleways bewteen suburbs, particulalry between from Newtown to Dulwich Hill. Not sure if its feasible, but, if a path could be built parallel to the rail lines, it would make it safer. Maybe a full loop path along the proposed light rail corridor between Dulwich Hill and Leichhardt and around to the city.

Council should consider more…

Well said Greg!

A cycleway along the new lightrail route would be a great way to get to Leichhardt and the city. My son already rides that way to work but would be much safer if it was all separate bike path. Even better if the bike path was separate from the walking path too!
