The community itself. Provide public information sessions about these issues. Raise the level of understanding in the community. Raise the level of discussion and debate.

City Rail - improving the station; Sydney Buses - more frequent and reliable bus services; local youth groups - help remove graffiti and get engaged in legitimate street art projects; local environment and garden groups - green spaces/nature strips/stree trees cleanliness and upkeep; schools - education of kids helps educate their families too.

CityRail, TIDC and the RTA are essential partners for transport partnerships. Improved accessibility for parents with srollers, elederly and disabled people is a critical priortity for Sydenham Station which is woefully below par without lifts for a major transport hub.
There is so much potential at Sydenham Station for a park-and-ride and kiss-and-ride facilities to assist with traffic congestion, nearby neighbourhood amenity (ie rediuced all day commuter parking, and reducing car reliance. The other stations in the LGA stop at virtualy all stations to the city and you can get to the city faster if you live at Ashfield or Summer Hill than you can at Petersham or Marrickville. Sydenham Sttaion is the fastest option, which makes it an even more critical transport hub. Council could plan this area better with its State govt partners, particularly on the Buckley Street side for prioritised transport planning.

Council should built strategic partnerships with CityRail, all the rail infrastructure bodies, RTA, State Transit, Dept of Planning and all the State bodies that have responsibility for how we move about this city. But I imagine that council already has formed such relationships. A sound and well supported ten year Community Strategy will further assist in cementing these partnerships.
Partnerships should also be in place to assist in a better understanding of the Marrickville community's health and social needs and in sustainable living. The partnership with City of Sydney should be strengthened. The Water Shed is an excellent example of a dynamic and successful partnership - just visiting there is an education in sustainable living. More of this, please Council.

This is an ongoing issue I know.......but is there anything we can do about the airport noise which travels directly over us in Marrickville, not as low as Tempe and Sydneham but enough for it to disturb our daily lives(especially on a Friday night when planes seem to arrive one after another)...I have no idea what this noise will have on our hearing. I guess in 20 years when they see us all walking around with hearing aids we'll know who to blame. Someone mentioned to me they were looking at another airport, which would stop them flying over our residential areas.

I wouldn't count on Kingsford Smith Airport disappearing in the next half century without a major technological miracle, especially with the new rail line added to serve it. Any other airport would just be in addition to the current one.
The noise levels are actually much better than 15+ years ago when I first lived here as the planes are more widely distributed and the newer planes are much quieter.

Work more closely with the police to ensure that licensing laws, especially in regard to continuing to serve intoxicated patrons, are more strictly enforced.
Help ensure that opening hours are not extended and reduced where appropriate.
Aid the establishment of small bars in established business districts but again without over-extended opening hours.

Work more effectively with community, consultation process is often more token rather than genuine. Should be commitment to engage and foster community initiatives, even when they may be different from council's internal priorities. Build more flexibility and responsiveness into the system.

Encourage/work with the State Government to put the disused freight line between rozelle and dulwich hill into action as a light rail line, linking the existing train lines and making the most of this existing infrastructure rather than letting it rust away

Work with TIDC/Railcorp to improve the whole Marrickville station area. It's just ripe for a well thought out Transit Oriented Development. This could include lifts to access platforms for a start! Also secure bicycle parking. Improvements could be part funded through engaging with developers to rejuvenate the shops and accommodation around the station to achieve a win-win situation for all. With good planning the heritage values of the station could be retained and even enhanced.

City Rail for Sydenham and Marrickville stations, and more commuter parking at each; local State and Federal members of parliament; Marrickville Police; other councils in the pursuit of building a dedicated bike path into the CBD.
