We want feedback on a special rate variation to help meet the cost of building the New Marrickville Library.

We want feedback on a special rate variation to help meet the cost of building the New Marrickville Library.

In order to provide the kind of new Library the community wants, Council will need to raise a total of $30 million.  Seven million dollars has already been earmarked from Council reserves. To raise the additional $23 million, Council is proposing a special rate increase of 6.72% (an average of $1 per week for residents and $6.70 per week for businesses) with the cost spread out over 15 years to minimise the impact on current residents.

Without a special rate increase, Council will have insufficient resources to build the new Library.

Council is asking for community feedback on the proposal to increase rates above the normal annual increases in order to pay for the New Marrickville Library. Tell us your thoughts in the online discussion.
